Weight Gain Calculator

At the start of each visit to your provider, you will be asked to step on the scale. For this reason, knowing what weight you should shoot for in each stage of your pregnancy is important.

Women of average size typically gain 25 to 35 pounds during their pregnancy, although women who are underweight may be told to gain more and those overweight told to gain less. Your baby, placenta, uterus, maternal breast mass, and increased blood and fluid will only account for 17 to 26 pounds. Anything over and above that are extra stores that can prove to be quite difficult to take off after a birth.

The second trimester is a period of rapid growth for your baby as well as many physical and emotional changes for you. The feeling that you have lost control of your body is common. You may outgrown your clothes, feel less attractive, and have less interest in sex. At those moments, it is important to remind yourself that pregnancy is temporary and soon your body will resemble its former self.

Use this tool to help keep your weight gain within healthy limits as your pregnancy continues.
