Failure to thrive more less Question HI I am actually writing about my niece who is 18 months old and noton the growth charts Her pediatrician is concerned that she is underweight and under height requirements for her age SHe has been dx'd with low tone in her lower>upper extremities SHe has been seen by a feeding clinic and then referred for a Milk Scan which revealed no significant findings I am a speech pathologist as well as her very concerned Aunt I have never been to concerned about refulx so I was a bit miffed as to why they would evaluate her extensively for reflux over some other possibilities like tone/strength/muscle fatigue anyhow my sisters concern is that she never appears to be hungry or particularly interested in food and even if she is momentarily it doesn't last any thoughts on how we can proceed She is scheduled to see a GI dr in late July but I can;t help but think unless it is something like celiacs or some other digestive issue we are barking up the wrong tree Currently her main nutrition is obtained when she nurses 2x a day

my son won't eat ANYTHING!! more less Question Alright so I've tried EVERYTHING I can to get my toddler to eat (he's 15 months) and is practically on a hunger strike Every time I try to feed him he closes his mouth as tightly as possible and shakes his head no The most I can get in him after having war with him is about 4 5 bites That's obviously not enough before I was giving him too much milk but now I don't give him any milk and he still only takes a few bites I feel like he's not getting enough Could something be wrong Also I do give him one bottle of pediasure during the day because if he doesn't eat I feel like at least he's getting some nutrition Your response would be greatly appreciated

rice cereal more less Question My daughter is about 5 and a half months old and we just started rice cereal about 4 days ago Yesterday my mom was watching her and fed her the cereal My baby just wanted more and more so my mom continued to feed her (She probably had a tablespoon at the most though) Later that day my mother said her stomach seemed to bother her and she vomited 3 times Could this be due to overfeeding or could she possibly be having a reaction to the cereal

serving breastmilk (in a cup) to a pre-schooler more less Question I have a 6 month old who is breastfed Just yesterday I broke out my breast pump so that I could mash up some sweet potato for her As I was pumping my 3 1/2 year old daughter (who was breastfed for a year) came in and was very curious While she didn't ask to try any it seemed for a moment she might It made me think: would there be something wrong with me giving her some in a cup Intuitively it seems like it would be very good for her I'm not sure if I haven't heard of women doing this because it's taboo or because there is some reason it shouldn't be done Any thoughts Thanks Bridget

Concerned more less Question My 2yr old daughter is allergic to most fruits and eggs determined by allergy specialist when she was 9 months because of refusal to eat fruits or drink juice She eats fairly well she is a big meat and potato person She is very healthy has never been on an antibotic My big concern really isn't with what she eats but what she drinks Since she will not drink juice and really not big on soda she drinks a ton of milk On an average day she will drink between 24 and 30 ounces of milk a day She also really likes water and drinks it throughout the day I know for her age she is consuming way to much milk but why is there a limitation on how much milk she should have Are there any health problems that could arise because she drinks so much

Avoiding junk at school more less Question My 3 year old goes to nursery school One of the reasons we picked this particular school is that the teacher outlined the healthy snacks she served About the worst thing she said was the occasional jello Ok fine We thought As it turns out there is a birthday party in class at least once a week where parents bring in junk food and often pass out "party bags" with candy inside I'm already labled the freak mom who sends healthy lunches (nothing too crazy whole grain bread with almond butter and jelly and veggie booty or sometimes a thermos with our healthy dinner leftovers) My daughter is beginning to comment on how she is the only one who brings this food (so I ditched the thermos) and her teacher told me that she "hordes" the party's junk food I don't want to be so extreme that I cause an adverse reaction But at the same time I refuse to allow my daughter's health to suffer over things like the optional Tuedsday McDonald's (I'm not joking) lunch at school I wish it were as simple as switching schools but I fear this is something I'm going to come up against (and I even live in a progressive Brooklyn neighborhood) time and again Any suggestions
