question about colposcopy   Question kaam05 3/7/20073:15 pm question about colposcopy didnt know where to ask thisI am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant and I have HPV I had a colposcopy done last week I didnt have a biopsy because the dr didnt see anything to be concerned about I didnt bleed or anything But he put brown stuff on my cervix after my colposcopy It didnt look like the yellow stuff they put on the cervix after a biopsy to stop the bleeding He did say what it was called but I can't remember He also said that it had iron in it So my question is what's the name of the stuff he put on and could it be the stuff they use after a biopsy even though I wasnt bleeding thanks Laura Hunter: Moms on Call 3/7/20074:36 pm question about colposcopy didnt know where to ask thisI am not familiar with what it is called I am sure the mid wife can answer that Congratulations on this pregnancy Laurawww momsoncall com

Blood in Urine of Newborn Baby Girl Question My sister had a baby girl last week who is now one week old At her first doctor visit 2 days ago she had blood in her wet diaper The nurse was concerned The doctor said it was common in newborn baby girls the hospital should have advised her of this possibility and it was nothing to worry about My sister is not one to ask a lot of questions (I ask a lot of questions ) Over the last three days there has been more blood in the baby's urine Not pinkish urine but more like 1/4 tsp of reddish blood Is this truly common or should my sister take her baby to another doctor If this is normal and common can you direct me to internet or other sources for more information I'd certainly appreciate some direction Thank you A Powell

Two questions--ear infection and toddler waking Question My 8 month old has had an ear infection for over a week and is on his second round of antibiotics He is now taking omnicef (on his 4th day) Yesterday his left ear started excreting puss and it continued this morning I just took him to the doctor yesterday afternoon and the doctor said he was getting better albeit slowly I plan to call the pediatrician tomorrow (monday) but is there something i should be worried about i look at this as a good sign that the infection is literally coming out am i assuming correctly also my 2 5 year old has started getting up in the middle of the night and coming into my room or just crying for me from his bed it has been going on for a week or so it lasted 1 5 hours last night please let me know what i should do to get him to stay asleep in his bed the entire night should i encourage him with treats

Is it diabetes Question Diabetes is in my family my younger brother was diagnosed 10 years ago My 13 month old is showing some signs he has recently been in hospital after a nasty infection he is eating and hungry all day but not really gaining weight he has got itchy dry skin he is urinating a lot but i dont know if the fluid intake is excessive he has nearly a pint of water a day When he was in hospital they discovered a hemoglobin level of 7 2 he is on iron liquid but as he has a good balanced diet i was suprised at this Does it sound like Diabetes

Hepes Virus 1 Question Hello My 2 yr old daughter has a new playmate that was diagnosed yesterday with Hepes Virus 1 This new child has played at our home over the past week and is always putting my daughters toys in her mouth I read that the virus only stays contagious for about 10 seconds once it hits the air Is this true If this is not the case how can I effectively disinfect her toys or is it too late I have sprayed them with Lysol and washed all of her linens and blankets etc However I am still very concerned Please help

Colic or Just Gas? Question My 6 week old formula fed son has really bad gas all the time all day When he came home from the hospital he first had numerous stools every day but then after two weeks started only going once every couple of days & he was uncomfortable An ounce of apple juice each day makes him go once a day sometimes two and seems much more comfortable He always cries when he's passing his stool At night (between 3 6am like clockwork) he becomes very fussy back arching grunting figeting He never really cries but it is obvious that he is in distress and I cannot sleep through it You can often hear the gurgling in his lower abdomen His abdomen also feels very tight and he sometimes passes gas But he passes gas all day long & seems perfectly content so why is it just during this time period that he is in such distress Any ideas about what it is or what to do about it would be appreciated (His Dr just calls it colic due to immature digestive system and says it will pass not much help to this exhausted parent )Angela

Uneven hair growth in my 3 year old daughter Question My 3 year old daughter hair grew quite late and ever since it has she has worn it in a side parting the side which should have the most hair has always been thiner and shorter that the other side However it has reasently become more apparent with her hair being quite thin and up to about her shoulder on one side and a lot thicker and about 2 3 inches longer on the other This is quite noticeable when she wears her hair in bunches as she will have one side with a tiny little stump of hair and the other with a nice thick curl I was wondering if this is normal or if there could be a reason or whether it could be a sign that there may be something else wrong with her

cleaning under foreskin? Question Is there any special care or cleaning required for my son who is uncircumcised I am under the impression I don't have to do any thing special but I have some older family members telling me it needs to be pulled back and cleaned or it will get infected Can you please clear this up for me Thanks

pre-biotics Question I've had some experience with probiotics after a bout with thrush when I was breastfeeding but now I'm hearing about pre biotics and I don't know what those are My daughter (2) just finished a round of antiobiotics and I don't know what to give her to help her body get back to normal Any advice

Anal Suppository in Vagina? Question My Daughter who is 1 yr and 5 months old was running a high fever approx 38 5C She was asleep so i thought instead of giving her orally i would insert a suppository However she was kicking me basically trying to push my off inserting it so i held her down and pushed the suppository into what i thought was her anal passage but to my horror it was her vagina Help me i am so worried i managed to take a look and noticed that the suppository was starting to dissolve and i will take her to the hosptial once she gets up She has passed urine and doesnt seem to be in any pain Please advise me as i need a second opinion Do you think that i have broken her hymn or will the paracetamol affect her ovaries I am in tears i feel like such a bad mother

Recurrent Yeast Infections in 3 Year Old Daughter Question Hi my daughter is 3 about 9 months ago she had really bad ear infections they put her on 6 back to back anibiotics until finally putting tubes in her ears From this she got a horrible yeast infection Since then we have been battling yeast infections She has been on diflucan ketoconozole and the cream for external itching I have been using only white cotton panties showers only no soap etc She complains that it "tickles" so we put more cream but it doesn't go away What can I do

ovulation Question ovulatingWe are trying to concieve Last time I got pregnant I used ovulation test strips and ovulated day 14 of cycle and got pregnant the first time I currently have 25 to 26 days in my cycle now The fist day of my last period was Jan 8 (note: this period lasted 7 days which is very unusuall for me normal is 3 5 days at most) I used the ovulation test strip around day 12 to 16 and day 14 showed the darkest line but it was not/never as dark or darker than the comparison line We had sex for several days in a row during this time The last day we had sex was on the 20th of Jan The next morning I started bleeding (5 days after my period ended) Very light bleeding and only lasted 3 days Could I have been ovulating even tho the test strip line was faint Is it normal to bleed during ovulation Can you bleed if you concieved at that time Thanks Amy

Sleep Question My son is eleveen weeks old and he loves to sleep on his tummy during the day I have recently had trouble getting him to sleep on his back at night so I tried lying him down on his tummy He slept great without a whimper and for a longer period of time At what age is it o k to let him sleep on his tummy through the night

Taking the bottle Question Hello My daughter will be 2 in April She still takes a bottle for her afternoon nap and at night I have tried putting milk in sippy cups and she won't drink it she does drink sprite and water from a sippy She will not drink anything else from the bottle but milk I am afraid to just take the bottle because she won't get the milk she needs She is allerigic to fruits so she can't have juice and I don't want her to miss the nutrients from the milk Do have any advice on what I can do

Could my 3 year old have Diabetes? Question 2 nights ago my 3 year old son Mateo awoke around 3 am crying in pain He complained that his legs hurt and wanted a band aid I thought this was just an effort to get my attention so I simply rubbed his legs and he fell back asleep 10 minutes later he awoke again crying and yelling "Ouch" He told me his legs hurt so I brought him in my bed and tried to console him He did not have a fever He asked for juice I got up to get him some juice and decided to give him a little Motrin for the "pain" He fell back asleep (thanks to the Motrin) and slept until 10AM I however could not go back to sleep but that may be a question for a different expert Last night Mateo woke up again at 2 am crying and saying he wanted juice I quickly got him juice and went back to bed He woke up 3 more times to ask for something to drink after that (2 more times for juice and 1 time for water) Nonetheless I am very tired right now When Mateo woke up this morning he had a headache I still did not think anything of any of these events until I was talking to a mom friend of mine explaining to her what had happened She mentioned that all were signs of diabetes Could this be true IF so what other signs do I need to look for and should I take him to get checked by his pediatrician

alcohol and breastfeeding Question I hear so many conflicting ideas on drinking while breastfeeding Some people say a glass of wine every night is fine some say the occasional drink is okay and some say not at all if you drink then you should pump I just wanted to know your take on all of this I do enjoy my occasional glass of wine and I went 9 months without But I certainly don't want to harm my baby Thanks

I need to stop breastfeeding. Question Hello I need help in this area I have 3 children all of which have been breastfeed 1st for about 15mths 2nd for 6 mths and this last one is still on he is 3 yrs old I have tried to stop breastfeeding him but it won't work He eats our food and drinks from a cup it is not like he needs my breast milk (which I don't think I have anymore) but he wont get off I just found out I am pregnant again and am worried about not getting my son off What would you suggest I was told that he would naturally wean himself off because the milk might taste differently but that hasn't happened yet I even tried putting lemon juice and mustard on my nipples but he just keeps on them I am drained out Even if I managed to hold him off from breastfeeding in the evening he just does it when I am sleeping he knows how to unhook my bra Pls help Maria

Both My Babies are Sick Question Yesterday my 8 year old woke up with a 102 fever and feeling very achy Hoping it was only a 24 hour bug I alternated the Tylenol and Motrin but the fever did not break until 3 AM this morning He is coughing a lot (dry cough) and has really bad chest congestion I am scared it is the flu How can I tell if it is or not My 3 year old awoke complaining of ear pain (crying in pain) He just got off his second antibiotic for a bad ear infection and when he was rechecked on Monday the dr said his ears looked better I used to be able to cure with a warm dry towel and olive oil but I do not want to risk any hearing loss at this point since it has been bad for over a month What do I do The dr is closed for the weekend
