Sleep Schedule Question My son is 22 months old He rarely sleeps the 11 12 hours recommended for his age He usually sleeps 8 9 hours We would like him to sleep later in the morning but haven't had much luck He normally takes a 3 4 hour nap during the day After his nap he is typically very grouchy for about 20 30 minutes which I thought might be from sleeping too long during naptime For the last 2 weeks I've been waking him up after a 2 hour nap in hopes that he'll sleep longer at night So far it hasn't helped Any help would be greatly appreciated Answer |

Toilet Training Question Hi there My son is 21 months old I had no intentions of potty training until he was around 2 1/2 years old However for the last 4 months he hides under the kitchen table to poop EVERY time he poops The last two weeks several times he comes and gets me takes me in the bathroom and points to the toilet and says "poop" I've set him on the toilet and he seems fine with it until he is actually right on the verge of going poop then he gets upset and wants off My question is should I start toilet training or not He also grabs his genital area when he urinates like he realizes something is going on down there He also has some bladder control because he stays dry for long period of times and when he does go it's usually a large amount He is very good at communicating his needs so I'm not concerned about that Any advice would be greatly appreciated Like I said I had no intentions of doing this yet but everyone keeps telling me he is showing all the signs of being ready Thanks so much for your help Jill Answer |

possible ear infection Question My son 6 1/2 months is always rubbing his left ear only He doesn't seem cranky from it but has started temper like tantrums and sometimes screams after he rubs his ear He recently broke through with 2 teeth and maybe getting more Can this be an effect of teething or even just a sign of tiredness (he usually rubs his eyes when he is tired however) or is this a sign of a possible ear infection Thanks Answer |

fighting sleep Question I have a 5 month old daughter who has been a great sleeper up until now (10 11 hours a night straight through and good naps) All of a sudden she is fighting sleep like crazy She cries to go down for a nap and is waking up in the night crying I haven't used a pacifier up until now and would prefer not to get her attached to it but it seems the only way to get her down is to nurse her or use a pacifier I know I shouldn't but am at my wit's end I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can help her soothe herself to sleep without a pacifier Thanks so much Answer |

Toddler hit head, Vomiting Question Hi I have a question My 18 month daughter hit her head on Monday and once she cried and continued to carry on I didn't think much about it In fact the following day (about 24 hours after the hit) she began vomiting sporadically and continued so for about 12 hours The next morning she seemed fine but then in the afternoon (after her nap) she was out of sorts; for example she was very tired legs and arms seemed like jello she kept wanting to lay down After a discussion with the triage nurse of my daughter's pediatric office my husband and I and our 2 5 year old took her to the ER (too late for an office visit) Of course my daughter's behavior was normal and the doc stated that she seemed fine but we wouldn't know for sure unless we got a CT scan At this point we had already been at the ER for 4 hours it was close to midnight and a miserable visit with a 1 and 2 year old so we opted to go home and revisit the issue in the morning So this morning my daughter's pediatric office called to follow up and the nurse said my daughter's doc was out but would follow up with another and call me back well I never heard back from her and felt this nagging feeling that the CT scan should be done but let it slide until I heard from the nurse 4 o clock rolls around and no word from the nurse so I tried to call but the phones were switched over and I waited about 20 minutes but no one ever answered Anyway I let it go and thought my daughter seemed fine Well this evening I put her to bed and she went to sleep but since awoke vomiting my husband is taking my daughter first thing in the morning to the doctor to have the CT scan my question is what is the possibility of it being a brain injury the symptoms seem awfully coincidental and she exhibited no signs of being ill other than hitting her head Anything else I should be aware of as well I apologize for the lengthy email thanks for your time Answer |
