19 month old clumsy walker Question My 19 month old son has been walking since 14 months He is still extremley wabbely and will run into everything and just falls in his tracks like he's dizzy Were not sure if this is normal cause we don't see a lot of other toddlers his age to compare He has immune defiecency problems (which no immune or hem/onc Dr that has tested him can figure out ) Can this be a symptom of any immune disorders The Immune Dr originally thought he had DiGeorge Syndrome however the tests came back negitive which he said does not 100 rule it out He also has pigment changes all over his body which were initailly being watched by our Ped suggestion for NF1 symptoms however the dermatologist stated to watch them; they are most likely changes as an effect of when he had RSV at 3 months Since no Dr can actually diagnose him with any reason he has limited WBC and T cells I immediately am weary about anything about him that doesn't seem right We just saw the hem/onc Dr who said his WBC are still dropping however not to the bottom of the scale to start shots every 2 weeks or for a bone marrow biopsy that he was thinking about wanting to do He has a follow up for a cell count in 4 months Should I take him to the Ped or talk to the Immune Dr about the clumseyness sooner then that Answer |

girls and color-blindness? Question My 2 1/2 yo daughter has learned her colors and can identify them accurately except she always mixes up red and yellow I assume she just forgets or gets them mixed up She can always identify orange without a problem My maternal grandfather had color blindness and from what I understand although I could potentially be a carrier and pass color blindness on to a son my daughter couldn't have color blindness unless her father was color blind as well Is my assumption right I just wanted to make sure that there isn't something I should be watching for Thanks for your time Susan Answer |

Chronic fissures and c-section Question I have a history of anal fissures chronic off and on for 10 years In the last 2 years the fissures worsened and I have undergone two operations to correct them unsuccessfully Due to this history my colon and rectal doctor recommended that I have a c section (worried about tearing and making situation worse as well as incontinence post vaginal delivery) My OB supports this decision Normally they do a planned c section at 39 weeks which would be Friday May 9th However my doctor will be out of town that day which leaves me the option of May 13th 3 days before my 40 week due date or May 6th 38 1/2 weeks (they only do c section on Tuesday and Friday) I am a very petite person 5'7" and started out at 108 pounds I am currently at 136 and am just over 36 weeks I have been having pre term contractions for the past 8 weeks and experiencing loose bowels almost daily for the past 2 weeks which aggravates my fissures (I think just as a result of the pressure and weight) My question is which date you would recommend I want to do what is best for the baby's health as well as my own Answer |

No pooping Question My son was a premie 34 weeks and spent 13 days in the NICU He came home fine and 6 weeks old I had to go back to work I took him to the daycare I had choose (an in home daycare and I went to high school with this person & totally trusted) but at the same time he got an inter ear infection and was put on an antibiotic Ever since that day he has not been able to poop on his own Since March 3rd the only times he has went on his own is only 3 and have been total blowouts Our pediatrician wants us to put a thermater up his rectal cavitiy and stimulat the spicstur muscle and this seems to let him go He is gaining wieght and growing (because my husband is the sole care giver while I'm at work) but this does not seem normal I have taken him to another Dr and he says he is not able to use these muscles I don't understand because he is able to pass gas Our pediatrician will not even return our phone calls (she thinks we are overreacting as first time parents) My parents watch him every Wed and they think his is way to fussy He seems to cry all the time unless you hold him upright He started something new within the last week where he throws his upper body back and throws his arms in the air and screams after only eating 4 5 ounces of formula The home heath nurse came today and gave him his last shot and made an appointment for Monday with a new pediatrician She felt this was not normal either I have him on Simalac formula for gas and colic babies Please help Answer |

pedi stumped at what is wrong with my baby Question I have a 21 month old child that has been at the doctors office pretty much every 2 weeks since he was 3 months old He has tons of URIs and has had pneumonia twice within 6 months The months were April and January He had RSV at 7months got tubes in ears at 9 months He is a big baby 29 pounds so he is not havng failure to thrive which seems to have thrown lots of doctors off We have been to 3 immunologists/ allergists The last one was at Arkansas Childrens hospital and all his tests there were normal He did have one abnormal tetanus titer test but they redid it and it came back normal He now has had a random fever for 18 days He will have a normal temp in the morning and then start mid day at 100 5 101 5 at times Sometimes it is the opposite with waking up with a fever and it being gone by night He is really low on energy but eating normally He is cranky a lot and will just lay in his bed at night( 12 3ish) and just cry He does not cry for me to hold him or to get him out of bed he cries in his sleep and just lays there My pediatrician just did a mono test and it was negative too I am very frustrated at this point because I have known that there was something wrong for 21 months now I have had to take family medical leave from work because he cant handle a daycare situation He catches everything He is on regular dose of bactrum and has been for 3 weeks now he also took omnicef for 10 days on top of that because he has this fever and feels bad his lymphocytes are elevated The immunologist has pretty much written it off be cause all of their tests have come back normal My pediatricain is getting in touch with infectious diseases at childrens as we speak because she is stumped on why he is always so sick We thought that we would have some answers from his immunology tests but nothing showed up I cant sit back and just have them tell me " you just have one of those sick babies" This is abnormal and my pediatricain agrees He never gets just a cold it always is some type of infection WE went through 5 antibiotics with this last sickness/pneumonia before he ever got any better He gets better just never well PLEASE let me know where i can go for a mystery sick child Answer |

mucous in a baby's stool Question Hello Dr Vaccaro I noticed in my newborn's yellow seedy poop some stretchy and jello like mucous when she was 12 days old She is 17 days old now Her tommy makes some noise and she didn't gain weight since I noticed mucous ( I measured her weight yesturday) I am nursing her 10 times a day What could be the reason of her mucous To give you more to work with I will tell you that with my first daughter 4 years ago I had a similar problem When she was 3 4 months old she started having mucous in her poop her tommy made noise and she was gaining only a little bit of weight Back then we went to the specialist and what he suggested was to illiminate dairy in my diet and see what happens I did and her tommy seemed to make less noise but mucous was still present Slowly it went away but it tool a few months The specialist also told us that if my diet didn't help to either take her off the breast or to try and check her colon by inserting some kind of camera Not sure how it's called Anyway we didn't do this procedure then and I don't want it done now either So what should I do Please help Answer |
