Yesterday Was My Birthday

Yesterday was my 30th birthday. I celebrated the day with my hubs and our two boys. We had cake the day before because our two year old saw his daddy bring in a cake and he was so excited about the cake that we couldn't NOT let him eat it.

Turning 30 is not at all like I thought it would be. I didn't get depressed or sad or anything like that. I'm actually quite content. I wonder if it's from all that chocolate cake and ice cream (which I'll have again today) or I'm really fine with being thirty.

Go over here to my other mom blog to read more about my 30th birthday and to see what my hubs wrote. It was too sweet.

It's been A While...

I've been on a blogging hiatus for a few weeks now. I've been spending more time contemplating blogging and working on some information sites. Life, blogging, and working at home can get tough and stressful so I took a little "break".

The break has been great and I'm gearing up for another break this coming week. We are probably going on a small vacation this week if everything goes as planned. We can either go to the beach or the mountains. Who knows where we will end up...and it doesn't matter as long as we are all having fun.

Mommy's not Super Woman

For the last week, I have felt like super mom. Well, more like I feel like I have had to be super mom. I have two very demanding kids and on most days (most weeks actually)I am the one doing everything for them. They aren't in school, the don't go to daycare, we don't have a babysitter, and we've never done the mommy's day out thing so I'm sure you can imagine how I feel. I feel like I have been really overworked lately as a work at home mom.

Something has got to give. It is at these times that I wished we lived closer to the hubs family. They would be so willing to help us out. It's not that I need someone to take care of them but a break would be nice once per week or atleast someone to entertain them for a few hours during the week so I can get my work done without getting up at crazy early morning hours before the roosters start to crow.

How do you get breaks? Or are you in the same situation as me?

And A Side of Grease Please...

This is the fourth weekend in a row that myself and my family has traveled out of town. It seems like we just cannot keep ourselves at home. We tend to settle down with traveling beginning in November except for Thanksgiving, Shopping, and Christmas. And from January to March we seem to be house bound. I guess we are getting it all out now.
Anyway, two of those past weekends were sacrificially (read: terribly boring) spent at college football games with the hubs but this time we are going for my nieces 8th birthday party. The boys are overjoyed at the prospect of spending time again with their cousin and due to the theme of the party being one of their favorite characters, Spongebob. I actually enjoy most birthday parties too because it's a family get together and you can never have enough family get togethers. That is, if you don't live in the same town as your family.

With traveling, comes the necessity of fast food if you have a family of all boys. They are always starving and they tend to think driving one hour north warrants two restaurant stops (just kidding)! But, realistically, we do eat out more when we are traveling because we are in a hurry and it's just easier to grab something on the go rather than cooking and cleaning up right before we get ready to leave. Then comes the issue of healthy eating. That just goes out the window when we are traveling. Our choices are usually Arbys or Wendys. Sometimes we pick McDonald's but it's a rarity. Our 5 year old doesn't like subway or any related place and our 2 year old can't eat much of anything from any restaurant due to his severe stomach problems. So ultimately we choose what's quick and cheap.
So, what do you choose for your family on the go?

My 2 year old son said...

Here's a little quip from my 2 year old son. It's too cute for me to pass up on sharing.

"Big Spiduuu (his way of saying spider) Mom! Big Spiduu Mom!"

Then he grabbed the air and put the air to his mouth and said, "Yum"!

And, here is a darling photo that I took of him yesterday. I adore it. I'm going to get a big print made of it to put on our wall.

I'm Officially A Soccer Mom Again...

My 5 1/2 year old started a new soccer season up on Saturday. He has been so excited about this season starting and to see what team he would be on. He is on a new team this year called the Cubs and he is really enjoying his spot there.

On Saturday, he scored 4 goals out of 7 attempts. He did great and we were all so proud of him. Everyone was surprised at how well he does.

The only drawback is that we started Soccer for more than just being in Soccer. We wanted to increase his social skills (making friends, playing together, teamwork, etc.) with this team sport. So far he is doing great with playing together, team work, and going by the rules but he is not that interested in talking to the other kids. Granted, it was his first game and the first time he had met these new kids on his team but most of the others seemed to interact ok. I assume it was mostly because these kids were in school together and he isn't. I'm hoping he does better today. I'm just not sure how to approach it or what to do to encourage it anymore since I think I've tried everything already since he was like this last year until the last few weeks. I know it takes him time to warm up to people.

Mommas, help me out here.

Thirty, and Flirty, and Thriving!

Break out the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" songs because I'm getting ready to turn 30 in less than 2 months and I need those songs to help me through. Did I mention I was freaking out over it?

If I can be like Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 then I will be just fine. I want to have that mindset-Thirty, and Flirty, and Thriving!

Anyone else getting ready to turn 30? If you are already 30+, how did turning 30 make you feel?

Mom Confessions

Ever feel like you just need to confess about something you did just to make you feel better? As moms, we aren't perfect and sometimes we just do stuff to get through the moment or the entire day even if it isn't the best thing we could be doing but it works.

Here are a few of my "mom confessions"

1.) I gave my two year old a pepsi and an ice cream together at a football game this weekend. Reminder to self: Don't EVER do that again if you want to stay sane and get some sleep.

2.) We are STILL co-sleeping. The 5 year old, the 2 year old, myself, and occassionally the hubs is sleeping in one bed. Most of the time the hubs ends up on the couch. I keep saying that I am going to make the boys start sleeping in their room but it's just so much easier to let them go to bed with me at night and I know this is not good.

Got any mom confessions? Share them with me here and on your own blog. If you share them on your own blog, please leave a comment here so I can read it and comment over at your place.

Gotta Go Potty...

Yesterday our 2 year old ( 2 years and 2 months to be exact) was playing quietly in his bedroom then he jumps up real quick and says, "I ga-go potty! I ga-go potty!"

He ran to the potty and afterwards went back to playing like he had been peeing in the potty forever. It was sooo cute! I wish I had a video of that moment.

I'm very surprised at how well he is doing since he has only been peeing in the potty for a little over a week. He still wears a diaper at night and on outings but other than that he doesn't wear a diaper during the day. It's also been very helpful to just allow him to run naked around the house all day.

I know this isn't the most entertaining thing to talk about but I'm just really excited about his potty training progress. Got any exciting milestones you want to share?

Syrup and Wheat

The hubs, our boys and myself have been eating healthier for some time now. Sure, we eat out when we are traveling and sometimes it's not so good but generally when we are at home, I cook healthy meals such as whole wheat spaghetti with vegetable sauce, baked chicken, and veggie stir fries. I know the spaghetti sounds bland but it's actually one of our favorite meals now.

Anyway, we have all gotten used to eating whole grain wheat bread except our 2 year old who doesn't eat much bread anyway. So, this morning in attempt to trick him into eating some wheat bread I put syrup on it and you know what? It worked. But I think putting syrup on whole wheat bread kind of defeats the purpose. Don't you?
