Ask a Midwife

Cathy Collins-Fulea MSN, CNM, FACNM is the Section Head, Midwifery and Medical Director, In-Patient Obstetrics for the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit MI. Ms Collins-Fulea's initial nursing and midwifery education were complete in England before returning to complete a refresher program at Booth Maternity Center in Philadelphia. She then completed her Master's in Nursing Administration at Oakland University in Michigan.

Ms Collins-Fulea has been in active clinical practice since 1981. She currently leads a group of 10 CNMs in full scope midwifery at an inner city tertiary care hospital. In addition, she has been active in ACNM locally and nationally. She is the chair of the ACNM Division of Standards and Practice and leads the ACNM national Benchmarking Project. She is also the Chief Editor and a contributing author to 'An Administrative Manual for Nurse-Midwifery Services' first and second editions. In 1998 Ms Collins-Fulea was elected a Fellow of the ACNM and in 2003 she was won the ACNM Foundation Dorothea M. Lang Pioneer Award.

Effective June 2nd 2006 , Ms Collins-Fulea will join the Board of Directors of the American College of Nurse-Midwives as the Regional Representative for the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
