Breastfeeding Baby #2 Concerns Question I am expecting baby #2 soon and I was just wondering I had issues breastfeeding my first born I could barely keep up with his feedings so I had to supplement Then because of gullstones I could eat a healthier diet like I wanted to so I only breastfed for 2 months I feel like my breasts couldnt produce enough milk for my baby Now since I don't have my gullbladder and I know what to eat is there anything that I could take (pills food) to help bring in my milk so that I don't have to supplement I'm just afraid I won't be able to breast feed again Katie M Farmington MN Answer |

loud music and fetal disturbance/deafness? Question Hi Cathy I was wondering about this because I have read a lot of conflicting information and I won't be able to ask my midwife for a couple weeks I am in the music industry for work and am exposed to loud rock n roll music on average of 4 8 hours a week I am currantly 15 wks pregnant Is this damaging my baby Someone told me (I love those "helpful" strangers ) that my baby would be "deformed deaf and brain damaged" because of this exposure Is this true I find a lot of conflicting information (go figure ) on the internet I guess I thought my body would protect the baby from this and because he/she is essentially under water the baby is protected I figured he/she could feel the vibrations but that it was no big deal This is my job and how I support myself and the baby To quit and be (for who knows how long in this market ) jobless and moneyless is unthinkable to me But I will not put my baby in danger NOw I am completely freaked out have a huge punk show to work tonight and terrified I'm killing my baby Help Sarah Answer |

herpes Question I have had herpes for 10 years now With my first child(9 years ago) they wouldn't give me any medication for it They said the meds were not safe I ended up having a csection because she was breech so I didn't have to worry about neonatal herpes With this pregnancy I would like to try a VBAC The doctor says the only way I can is if I start taking Valtrax at 36 weeks Otherwise I need to have a csection Is this true Is it safe to take Valtrax What are the odds of passing on herpes even without a known outbreak Any info will be helpful Thank you Answer |

labor Question I am 39 weeks I had a dr appt on Monday when I was only 38 1/2 so she didn't want to check yet if I was dialating She said they don't check until 39 Would 2 sdays really have made that much of a difference My next appt is on Tuesday the 4th one day before my due date The doctor told me that the baby is head down and way into my pelvis I told her I was having a lot of shooting pain in my vagina and I feel so very nauseated She said I was very ready She said she didn't think I would make it to my due date next Wednesday She said in fact she'd be surprised if I made it to the weekend She said she suspected within the next two three days which would be today or tomorrow I don't feel anything though The pain and pressure are stil there I still feel nauseated and can barely eat I have braxton hicks pretty often I dont' know for sure if she is right My family and I are all on pins and needles just waiting for it to happen What is your advice What do you think Can she really say when it would take place My husband said she was wrong and that I would make it to next week But how would he know Answer |

contractions @ 16 wks. pregnant Question Hi I had a mc on 7/19/07 5 wks and now I'm 16 wks pregnant but two days ago I woke up w/my belly hard and feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom bad As the day progressed I noticed I had slight abdominal pain and discomfort but I thought I had a UTI therefore I started drinking lots and lots of water I can tell that the discomfort was what it was bothering me mainly so I called my Dr and saw him yesterday He checked my cervix and said its 3cm (I think) dilated & then said is normal & said that it was a contraction He said is normal to get them but is to early for me He didn't mentioned anything about Braxton Hicks and will check my cervix nxt wk again Please help me here by giving me a more concrete answer since he didn't mentioned the B Hicks all & I learned about them after looking for an answer to early contractions I also don't know if is normal to get them often during the day or if they happen once in a while Something that I have noticed is that I'm urinating more frequently and I don't drink lots of water What I'm thinking is that maybe the baby is putting pressure to my bladder and dehydration can be the cause for the B Hicks Answer |

Heart Beat Question HI Cathy I have just sent a question regarding the induciton of labour One more question I want to ask and see if it is related to the induction of labour I had the baby heart rate and contractions monitored today He was extremely active and within 45 minites he moved more than 20 times and heart rate ranged from lowest 145 to hightest 180 and so the doctor told me to drink somehting and redo it again and during the 2nd time within the first 20 mins he moved more than 15 times and moved 3 times for the rest 15 mins And heart beat ranged from 145 to 180 In the past visits he took an hour for 10 movements and sometimes 1 5 hours for 10 movements and ranged from 125 to 160 when he moved So in your opinions any hints that my baby has some problems what causes the differences of today's heart beat the count of the movemnt and the ranges does he under strees If so this is the reason why the doctor told me to induce labour on 12/10 Thanks for your advice Answer |

Induction of Labour Question Hi Cathy Once again I need your advice This is my first pregnancy I am 39 years old and had IUI on 3/17 and 3/18 and so 12/8 is my due date Today my total weight gain is 14 pounds(before pregnancy was 107) only and now is 122 and the baby is around 6 pounds I am GBS ve In the past weeks I had only had mild contractions and not dilated yet Today my doctor told me that if the baby is not born naturally within this week he is going to send me to hospital on 12/10 to induce labour I asked the reason and why don't wait after 41 or 42 weeks he just said for the benefit of my baby So can you explain to me under what situations doctor will induce labour What procedures would include What drugs would they use HOw about epidural Any harmful effect to the baby and to the mother short term and long term Usually how many hours for the induction and the baby to be delivered C section is necessary Anything I should pay attention to Any questions that I should ask my doctor before the induction of labour Thanks Answer |

Blood pressure issues, again! Question Hi you may remember me I have posted previously about spotting in pregnancy and also about blood pressure issues Here is today's issue I am now 13 weeks pregnant I have had some spotting on and off but nothing serious I have had two ultrasounds both came back perfect I was told I had my 12 week appt recently we heard the baby's heart beat for the second time and again we were told it is perfect It was 161 My blood pressure was a little elevated though It was 140/90 When I took it recently at Target it was 117/73 But this has been the pattern Every time I go to my OBGYN it is elevated My doctor and I talked about it She said it is not considered really high but high enough to take action So I have to do a 24 hour urine collection test She also wants me to purchase a blood pressure cuff and bring it into the office next week when I take the urine in and they will calibrate it for me I am to take my pressure every day a couple of times a day She wants me to go see my PCP and have an EKG done and also to get my eyes checked too She told me that right now I do not need hypertension medication but that I might later on She talked of the risks of preeclampsia and even of still birth She told me I will be coming in for check ups much more frequently than if I were not dealing with these issues and I will have more ultrasounds She said it is a possibility I may need bed rest at about 30 weeks She said I may not be able to deliver with the midwives either and I was hoping to like I did with my first delivery I do plan to do all that is advised and to continue my prenatal yoga (but to do it more frequently) I will even try to walk on the treadmill and to make healthy food choices I was wondering if you had any information advise suggestions you could offer me Is there anything else I should consider or do Also can you speak to my chances of things getting worse or of not getting worse What do I need to look for I am trying to stay calm positive and proactive But I still can't help but worry I can't believe I am 36 years old and dealing with blood pressure issues (my dad had it when he was young in his 20's or 30's and my mom had it in her 60's) I just worry about what these issues mean for my longevity as I have a 20 month old son and a baby on the way I want to be around a long time for them Thanks for your help Rizzo Answer |

re: labor Question I posted a few days ago (baby2 labor) I just wanted to say I am still here 39 weeks The dr said I wouldn't make it to the weekend It is already Friday My husband and I tried having sex to maybe get this labor going It just hurt more than anything My cervix I guess is very sensitive Does that mean maybe I am dialating already or is it just that your cervix is sensitive normally during pregnancy Cuz sex never hurt like that before last night I have a lot of braxton hicks They take my breath away I am just very tired of being pregant I guess I feel like a huge whale I can't even lay down sit back turn over in bed get out of bed with out feeling like I just ran a marathon Sorry if this post seems like I am just rambling It just helps sometimes to 'let it all out' So if there are any other moms in my situation or have been there it would be nice to here some comforting words Answer |

UTI Question Hi I am 27 weeks pregnant and I have had a UTI for almost one month now I took antibiotics twice and my urine is still not clear Should I be concerned that there is something else going on The clinic that I visit keeps telling me this is normal during pregnancy but with my first baby I had no such problems I am even thinking of getting a second opinion elsewhere but I can't really afford to go to another doctor I also started bleeding during my 24th week and they couldn't figure out what was wrong Doing my own research on the internet I found out a UTI or any other infection could cause bleeding and could result in preterm labor I appreciate if you could give me your feedback on this Thank you:) Answer |
