Weight loss Question I had my daughter 12 weeks ago I am breastfeeding doing cardio 4 6 times a week and lifting weights My body initially dropped a good amount of weight but now it seems as like it is holding on to the last 12lbs I watch my caloric intake and with breastfeeding I know that I am burning more calories then I am taking in (I do make sure to get enough fruits veggies and protein I just count the calories) so why is my body holding on to these extra pounds Answer |

Advantages/Disadvantages of Midwifery Question I have just learned from my son that his girlfriend has decided to forego delivery of their baby at a hospital or birthing center in favor of having the baby delivered at home by a midwife She has a fear of hospitals I had 4 kids delivered in a hospital b/c now as then I have concerns about problems arising with the Mother or baby outside of a hospital setting Is this a valid concern when the baby is being delivered at home My son's girlfriend still has regular visits with her ob/gyn Is this necessary if a midwife will deliver the baby The health insurance will not pay for delivery by a midwife Is there currently any federal legislation to make this mandatory especially when the midwife is licensed and certified And speaking of licensed should my son & his girlfriend be looking only to certified and licensed nurse midwives And how can they verify this information Is there anything on your site or other recommended sites that will quell my fears about midwifery Are their sites that will explain the disadvantages over the disadvantages of midwifery Is an special equipment needed for at home delivery Do nurse midwives get involved with the care of the baby or will they only recommend the use of a pediatrician Thank you for your time and I will pass this site on to my son and his girlfriend Answer |

weight gain/loss Question Right now I am currently 17 weeks pregnant My whole pregnancy so far as been crappy (especially the morning sickness) I had lost 25 lbs fast since I got pregnant I kept going to see my doctor for small problems like headaches and sleep troubles and they would weigh me each time Once I had lost 6 lbs in one week This was at 14 weeks I had my ob/ and ultrasound appt at 15 weeks and they told me that I had gained 15 lbs in one week Now of course My diet has not changed and they weighed me in my boots and uniform (Im in the military) that time so that added about five more pounds than what it probably was To me my belly is huge for only being four months but all my friends continue to tell me that I still look like I'm losing weight My diet has not changed and I eat fairly healthy (I haven't been craving too many sweets except icecream every once in a while) I was wondering if I should be concerned I was told that some females lose weight at first and then gain weight but I'm pretty sure that I'm still dropping weight My ultrsound came up great I was able to see and hear the heartbeat and I definitely feel the kicks but should I be concerned about any problems from this constant weight loss Answer |

Past Preterm Labor Question I had preterm labor in my second pregnancy (no problems in my first) My cervix was thinning at 28 or 29 weeks (The doctors found this because I asked them about the pressure I was feeling low in my abdomen ) I was put on terbutaline and sent home on bedrest for a few days then put in the hospital on magnesium sulfate After a long weekend in the hospital I was sent home on terbutaline home monitoring and bedrest I had no contractions but my cervix was between 1 5 and 9cm There was no mention of any dilation I was taken off everything at 37 weeks and had contractions for a few days after coming off the terbutaline but then they subsided I walked 2 miles a day after the bedrest was over On my due date I had a doctor’s appt He found I was dilated 8cm and I had my healthy baby that day after they broke my water in the hospital I’m now 6wks pregnant with baby #3 All the complications seemed like they happened so fast in the last pregnancy it seemed like the decisions needed to be made so quickly and I of course wanted to have a healthy baby so I did everything my doctors recommended I’d rather not expose my baby and myself to all that medication though if it’s not necessary While on bedrest I read a lot of books about preterm labor and premature babies and I searched online I found very little information about my situation: The incompetent cervix information was about earlier in the pregnancy and preterm labor information was about women having contractions or their water breaking not just a thinning cervix I’d like to make more informed decisions during this pregnancy and as I choose a provider Are there other options of treatment Would a midwife or an OB with more of a “natural” rather than “medical” view of childbirth have different treatment approaches Could my cervix thin early but still go full term and that’s just how my body works Is there anything I can do to lessen my chance of preterm labor this time Are there any books websites etc you would recommend to help me learn more about this Thank you for any information or knowledge you can give me Answer |

Do I have much longer? Question I know every pregnancy is different and that there is no way to predict when I will actually go into labor But right now I am 37 weeks with my second child According to my doctor my son has been in my birth canal for over a week and my cervix has rippend I am trying to get everything in order in case I go any day but all my doctor tells me is that the baby will come between now and my due date Feb 29th With this being my second child I didn't think that he would drop or my cervix would rippend until the onset of labor Guess I was wrong still do you think it will be sooner rather than later and is there any harm with my son resting in the birth canal for so long Thanks Anxious and Waiting Answer |
