Almost everyone has access to martial arts training nowadays. For instance, I just visited a Fredericksburg martial arts center that was very impressive. What I found there and elsewhere are Moms taking the time to have their children attend classes and in fact joining in to receive training themselves. After all, it’s a great type of physical activity to get and remain healthy. The secret is to select the training that is best for your own body and energy level. I know some Moms who are over six feet tall and two hundred pounds. They can take on a more strength- based training than can a five-foot pixie or a six-year old child. But in all cases, you have to learn how to block an opponent’s punch, perhaps redirecting it against your attacker.

There are many different types of martial arts, including Kung Fu, Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwan Do. Martial arts schools teach techniques to men, women and children at all skill levels. Students learn different poses or forms to block attacks and strike opponents. These forms allow students to develop attributes such as:

It takes time and practice to master all the moves, but on the way you will get into shape and actually feel younger. Moms do best by setting a routine and making sure that they and the kids stick to it. It’s a good idea to aim for two or three classes a week, preferably all at the same time of day. Of course, you will want to find a school that schedules classes for moms at the same time as children’s classes. Concurrent classes ensure that everyone gets their training and there is no waiting around.

Another important factor in selecting classes is the experience and personality of the instructors. They should exhibit care and attention to detail. Instruction usually begins in slow motion and then speeds up as students gain ability. Students soon learn the finer details as their bodies adapt to the new discipline. By making sure your kids start off with a good instructor, you are ensuring that they will gain proper form and execution. The peace of mind knowing that you and your children can defend themselves from attack is priceless, but training classes are usually very reasonably priced. Look for special packages to save even more money.
