Hi. I have two questions about breast-milk. First, my daughter is 8 mos. old and breast-feeding is going very well, thankfully. I work part-time but am home more often than not, so I feed my daughter at the breast a great deal of the time. I pump two - three times per day to keep a supply. In the last couple of months my supply when I pump is much less than it used to be. I can't stock any milk any more. Is this normal? Also, I have a HUGE supply in the freezer but it is anywhere from 7 months old to a couple months old. (The majority of it is 7 to 5 mos. old). I spoke to my pediatrician about why breast milk in the freezer isn't supposed to be used after a certain amount of time. She said that if I give my daughter one bottle a day of the older breast milk, it should be fine. She indicated that the older breast milk isn't bad, just not as nutritious as the newer stuff. What do you think? I hate to throw it out, I already threw some away and it fels terrible. Also, my pump seems to be "dying". I bought it new before the birth of my previous child, and now, it seems to be slowly dying (the motor). It is a Medela. Is there anywhere that does "tune-ups"? What should I do? Thanks, Rachel |
