Dear Dr. Camann,
I had very bad labor pains during my first pregnancy. I had them for about 72 hours. They were about 7 minutes apart and I was not dilated at the beginning of these labor pains. I waited the whole weekend until Monday, when I couldn't take it any longer. I was also a week past due. During the last 48 hours I could not lay down or sit down. Finally, my doctor allowed me to come into the hospital and I was 1 centimeter dilated. First he sedated me so that I could get some sleep. When I awoke, he then broke my water and induced me.
I am really nervous about a second pregnancy. Is there anything that could be done for the pain while in labor? Are there any medications/pain relievers that are safe to take?
Thanks
Robin
