Heartburn Cured!!!

Hi there ladies! Let\'s face it, we\'re all suffering from heartburn during pregnancy, and if you\'re not yet, then you soon will. Every website we\'ve gone to has told us to coat our stomachs with more milk, more cheese, eat less spicy foods, and street clear of fruits like lemons. And little did we know: these suggestions actually CAUSE heartburn!!!

So basically there are two kinds of foods in our diets: alkalizing and acidifying. Acidifying foods cause our stomachs to produce MORE stomach acid; alkalizing foods neautralize the stomach acid that is already being used. So let\'s think about this now: If our stomach acid is reaching and touching our esophogus, then it\'s probably safe to say our stomach doesn\'t need to be making more! We should instead try to neautralize the acids that are already there. So here\'s my cure, I know it works (a third trimester victim of heartburn myself!) and I love it! ...*drumroll*

EAT MORE FRUIT! EAT ENTIRE LEMONS IF YOU WANT TO! EAT MORE CHILI! AND STEER CLEAR OF MILK!!!

Sound crazy? There is a food chart at http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/acidalkfoods.html where a list of both alkalizing and acidifying foods are listed. Alkalizing foods include lemons, apples, raw tomatoes, cucumbers, leafy greens, balsamic vinegar, chili spice, curry spice, cinnamon (although that isn\'t reccommended during pregnancy because increased risk of miscarriage), and also most nuts. You can see for yourself which foods will help you to feel better and which ones may make heartburn worse. However, it\'s still important to eat a balanced diet of BOTH kinds of foods. The easiest way to know if you\'re eating right is to listen to what your body is telling you. Pregnancy is one of those GREAT natural phenomena, where our bodies know far better how to handle it than our brains do. This makes it easy for us: we just have to feel and respond! Relax. Things are on autopilot from here on out!

Too nervous to try a glass of lemonade instead of a glass of milk? Think of it this way: What have you got to lose? We\'ve all tried the milk trick and had it fail, we\'ve all tried eating smaller and blander meals, and that failed... why not eat something that we are actually craving? Like that glass of orange juice you\'ve been wanting but too afraid to drink! I send my warmest regards to you all, and my most sincere wishes for you all to be victorious in your battle against heartburn!
