I was shocked to see that Real Savvy Moms Go Green has a video bit promoting Horizon dairy products. They have had a series of problems with both they way they treat their animals (large feed lots) and what they feed their animals (genetically modified grains and hay - a no-no for organic farming). Many health food stores have actually stopped carrying Horizon because of hte bad publicity, and everyone I know has switched to more trustworhty brands like Organic Valley. I\'m not sure if Horizon has done anything to change their practices... |

Dear Susan,
We appreciate your open dialogue, and thank you for sharing your concerns with our audience. Feedback is always welcome at Real Savvy Moms. In response to post we wanted to provide you with some information to help put your mind at rest.
The cornerstone of Horizon has always been to provide families with nutritious dairy products. That’s possible through 485 family farmers who supply them with certified organic milk. The average size of these farms is less than 100 milking cows. They also have two company-owned farms, one with 2,000 milking cows and the other with 500. Horizon believes organic is scale neutral, but to be clear about what they practice on our own farms, they developed the Standards of Care (which you can find in greater detail at HorizonOrganicFacts.com), along with some other great, factual information about them and their practices. Unfortunately, there are groups out there who spread misinformation and cause consumer confusion, but the truth is Horizon is very much dedicated to organic, adheres to the organic regulations ( GMO grains and hay are not used) and in some areas go above and beyond the regulations.
We at Real Savvy Moms are very proud to partner with Horizon whose contributions help us continue our effort to educate moms across the country.
Thank you again for your comments and we hope to see you again very soon on the site
Best wishes
Kate and Lisa (co-founders)
