Hey Mom Bloggers!
I’m new to the site and just wanted to say hello. I am a mother of a ten year old boy named Peter, who’s just fantastic but sometimes I need a little advice or a place to vent and I thought I could do that here. I found this article in the Atlantic this week and it really bothered me and I thought you other moms, especially the new moms out there should really check this out. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200904/case-against-breastfeeding
The controversy surrounding breastfeeding has been around for years! Hanna Rosin, the article’s author, brings up a lot of questionable points and quotes. Anyone can argue and find facts to support their opinion, so take everything she says with a grain of salt. To be perfectly blunt, she’s biased. She shouldn’t be trying to convince moms to use formula, just like other authors shouldn’t try to convince you to breastfeed. You need to find out the facts, by talking to your baby’s doctor and figure out what’s best for your own family. Breastfeeding has been proven to be beneficial, but I know a lot of kids who haven’t been breastfed, my son included who turn out perfectly fine. Mother’s shouldn’t be brow beaten into a decision; it’s all about finding what’s best for your baby and family. So here’s the best piece of advice one mom can give to another, don’t worry about everyone else’s opinion, you’re the mom! It’s your child and you get to make the decisions, not the writer of some article, not your friends, or your relatives. The only advice you should be following is your baby’s pediatrician and your own conscious. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision for your family, because it will be your decision and what could be better than that? |

I agree, my wife breastfed our first son and than we used formula for the second and third kids. As a father it was great getting to fed the babies with formula so we had more bonding time. It was also easier on my wife who hated pumping. But like the other posters have said its up to you, you gotta do whats best for you own family. |

There was another great article about pumping in the New Yorker a few months ago, it was worth checking out. it talked about how more and more companies are creating safe and clean areas for working moms to pump. I think that's fantastic, either way you choose to feed your child it's your choice, and companies should respect your choice and help make it possible. It's so great to hear that your wife choose both options YankeeDad, that was one of the biggest problems i had with that first article I posted. The author made it sound like you had to choose a team and stick to it, and thats just not true. its all about whatever works for you and your baby |

I think there is enough evidence to prove that breast actually is best. Just research DHA. Not to say that formula is bad or anything but I just think that natural breast milk is the best. Anyone agree? |
