As a Artist/Designer I find that reading and drawing pictures tto little ones that represent them always gets their interest and can keep them interested for hours. Children love to hear stories about themselves, their family and friends mentioning their names makes them feel special.
I think today to many children are left to watch television which is filling their minds with things that are not yet proper for them to observe. If parents would do what was done years ago, when mothers or fathers held their little children on their laps and read them stories and make those stories personal to that child, will draw them closer together.
Because of my love for children and reading, I have developed my own business where I do personalized books for children, starting from babies up. These books are not only entertaining but educational, teaching young children many valuable lessons on crime, their first day at school, potty training, animals etc. For babies the personalized books make great gifts as they are a complete personal record of the babies\'s birth, the hospital staff, doctors, first visitors etc. When a child grow older he or she can be presented with their own book and read the story of his or her own birth, and all the doctors and nurses names that were there to greet him or her when they entered the world.
Personalized books are truly keepsake books both for parents and the children long after they are grown up. I enjoy personalizing these books for children. To see a few examples of how a personalized book can look, visit my website at: www.adnelg-creations.com. Also check the many educational titles that can be personalized for children.

I agree. I do not let my child have free range of the TV. He is allowed to watch when I am with him, other than that he should be playing and being a kid. Just because we live in an age of technology does not mean that our children should be raised by technology. Good old fashioned parenting is what children need no matter what generation they grow up in. |

Denying your child access to technology can sometimes backfire. Sure it might boost creativity and physical activity, but so much of schoolwork is computer based now. If your child isn’t familiar with the computer it can really slow down their progress in school. My son is ten years old and he has used the computer regularly for 5 years now. When he goes to school the kids talk about websites and online games they play. They have a real strong grasp of the Internet and software programs that I’m still learning. As long as it’s monitored I don’t really see a problem with it. It’s up to the individual though, what works for my family might not work for yours, but everyone should keep an open mind. |

My 6 year old son Jack is always on his video game, so I can understand how some parents feel like it can become too much. But he loves playing guitar hero with his older brother, whos almost 9. My wife tries to get them to read more but in this day and age books kids dont like reading. I bought him the harry potter series and we read that together most nights he's still a little young to really understand the plot but he likes listening to me read in my horrible british accent. I think as long as the parents put the effort in to encourage reading that's all that matters. But i do agree with Momtastic, technology is important, my 9 year old Del has to type his book reports already and he's only in the 4th grade. |
