Question Hi Dr Koos   Sadly I lost another pregnancy   To recall details:  I miscarried On Aug 15th at about 6 weeks   I ovulated about 2 weeks later and had a positive pregnancy test on 9/15   On 9/18 I went to a previously scheduled gyn appt and asked for labs   My 48 hour betas were 27 (9/18) then 10 (9/20)    I requested a progesterone with the 2nd beta and it was 2 9   I know this is far too low but did it possibly drop that low (so rapidly) after the pregnancy started failing    Or did the pregnancy possible fail DUE to low progesterone   I am 44 and I've heard it is more common to have low progesterone issues with advanced maternal age I want to try to get pregnant naturally   If you would suggest herbs and acupuncture I am in tune with that idea but I haven't been able to find anyone who is knowledgable with women's issues and fertility   I live rurally in southeast Arizoina but commonly go to Tucson for healthcare   Can you suggest someone   Thank you Answer AzAngie 1 369 9/22/07 6:27 am   cramping a little Question I am suppose to start my cycle on Sept 24 We are ttc and had unprotected sex on my ovulation days I have taken a home pregnancy test today and it came up negative I have been real tired for the last 3 4 days but no other syptoms I kind of have been cramping a little not allot for a day or two I had a m/c and d&c on July 23 of this year How long should I wait before I take another test Thanks Answer patchamo 1 367 9/22/07 9:22 pm   chromosome issue or not? and in particular came across one that asked about weight impacting miscarriages You stated that for a female a BMI over 27 can greatly increase the risk of miscarriage I always thought early miscarriages were due to chromosomal abnormalities/problems   Are you able to say more about how being overweight increases the chance of miscarriage I miscarried in January at 7 weeks and was never told about how my weight may have been a role I am overweight too I am not HUGE but I definitely have gained weight since my first pregnancy a couple of years ago (According to the BMI website I am sac but no visible baby My HCG levels were back down to normal this week I have read here and heard from several doctors and nurses that your period should return 4 6 weeks after the miscarriage But then the nurse told me this week that now that my levels were back to normal it would take 4 6 weeks from now to get my period Which is correct Also my miscarriage technically started on 8/19 and I this is long   I am 32 years old with regular periods and do ovulate We had a "surprise" pregnancy that ended in MC at 12 weeks when there was no heartbeat seen   I had a D&C on 5/8/07 bleed for 18 days and got my first period about 6 weeks from the D&C   This period was terrible 12 days long heavy and more than a pad an hour   So I won't count that as a normal period but MD said all was normal   With that period my MD ordered a progesterone test a thyroid test and a prolactin test on day 21   Well that cycle lasted 37 days (and I never have longer than 32 day cycles usually 30  )  So you can see that the bloodwork was taken 16 days prior to the end of the cycle and most probably before ovulation   My progesterone came back at 1 9 which is actually normal for the time it was taken (but we didn't know that at the time thinking it was going to be a 28 30 day cycle)   Based on this bloodwork my MD diagnosed me with a LPD and prescribed Clomid   I didn't really want to take it but was scared not too   But my first month ever TTC I was now  medicated and diagnosed with infertilty   At the same time I went to see an acupuncturist for a more normal approach   He said that ovulation is not the problem don't worry about the progesterone but that I have cold uterus and gave me acupuncture and some warming herbs   My first period while waiting to start the clomid changed to bright red bleeding and lasting only 5 days   (Important to note that my previous periods have always been 10 12 plus days dark and clotty and with lots of spotting and lower back pain)   So almost immediately within 10 days of natural treatment I began to change The acupuncturist knew that I had been prescribed clomid and said that it was up to me if I wanted to take it   That first month with the clomid and warming teas was too hot no EWCM and terribley uncomfortable   My cycle was 27 days with a short luteal phase of 11 days and breakthrough bleeding   Again only a 5 day period and no clots The next cycle I did do the clomid again (began temping/charting) and did not use the warming teas just normal teas   Negative pregnancy test at 13 DPO and no period at 15 DPO just some pink smudges still a high temp   So of course this is probably the longest LP that I have ever had but no guarentee that I am pregnant   My questions are about Natural vs Clomid for the next cycle 1 ) Does it sound like I have an infertility problem yet  2 ) Is cold uterus a LPD   3 ) We have only been TTC for two months so when do I get worried  4 ) Can I not take the clomid next cycle without risk 5 ) Would you recommend just acupunctures and herbs 6 ) If I take clomid for cycle #3 and it fails then the MD moves to IUI is this reasonable for someone like me 6 ) what would your protocol be I really like my Question Dear Ms Koos I appreciate your site   I have found interesting reading and education/inspiration     I have introduced myself before I am 44 and recently had a miscarriage after a surprise pregnancy   I miscarried on August 15 at 6 weeks had bleeding for 5 days like a normal cycle   I think I ovulated around the 30th as I had the noticible signs (mittleschmertz and changes in mucus)   I have slight breast sensitivity and mild nausea and hot flashes(new for me) so I took a HPT tonight and it was slightly positive    I am very happy but also very scared as I have done alot of research (as you recommended) and realize that this is a very fragile pregnancy    Is there anything I can do   I really want this to go well but I have guarded hope    Thank You Answer AzAngie 1 352 9/15/07 7:51 am   Possible pregnancy? Question I started bleeding on Aug 4th when I was about 5wks pregnant I went to Dr who did an ultra sound on Aug 8th and there was a heart beat I continued to bleed and another ultra sound revealed no heart beat on Aug 9th I went to Dr again on August 10th and pregnancy was still there Went again on Aug 14th and there was no embro present then I did not notice any blood clots that could have been the tissue from embro but it had to have came out sometime between the 10th and 14th My question is this I have not had a period yet My husband and I have been trying again since I quit bleeding on the 15th of Aug When is the soonest I could expect to be pregnant again When would my period start if it is I took a hpt and it was neg but figure it is too soon for that to register anyway Thank You ovulation and period Question Is it correct to say that even if a woman has a 28 or 30day  cycle that whenever her cycle does start she can count 14 before that date and that is when she actually unbelievable so we took advantage:) then we made love on sept 2( be he did not ejaculate) and again on sept 3 then again on the 5 Now I have a 31 32 day cycle and would be due to miss my period on charting vs. OPK Question Hello I have been charting for the past three months as well as using OPKs   The chart for my first month there was a temp shift at day 14 and day 17 whereas the second month Because I am trying to concieve it causes me to be overly anxioous and worried about EVERY single symptom I have   I always have a 30 day cycle with menstruation lasting 5 7 days   Since I've been doing acupuncture for the past 3 months the last 2 (after miscarriage) have done about the same but this month I've started exactly on the same day expected I had regular flow for 2 days then had some major cramping passed all the clotting and everything and the next morning (had acupuncture) and then it stayed as a light flow for 2 more days   the light spotting seems to be mixed with a littler brown then rose pink and curiously almost like water or a light clear fluid   I noticed this "water" and spotting the first week after starting the herbs and acupuncture  Is this a normal period since I've always beena 5 day flow    I'm just very curious and interested with these after effects and are they normal   Hopefully you can prevent me from having a total hypochondriac meltdown   I had all my exams and the ob/gyn says I'm fine and everyone pats me on my back and insists I stop to worry and that I'm just fine   I would love to get your opinion   Thanks so much for being
