my son is 10 months old and starting to walk me and my wife differ on child safing the house i have a surround speaker system that has to towers next to our entertainment center she wants me to pack them up cause he might pull them down trying to pull him self up on them i told her that if he goes near there to tell him no and move him away from the area she says he is to young to learn the word no in the entertainment center there are all kinds of prttey sparkly things with glass doors i feel if the speakers go so should the entertainment center do to the fact he like to beat on his fake mirrors at himself and on the car windows anytime he see's him self he smacks the reflection and laughs the glass is very thin and it wouldn't take much for him to break the glass in the doors with a toy in his hands or even his head if he stumbles my thought was to get the locking gates that lock together and make a ring of some type with the safe pads on the floor cause we have tile floor through out please help

Well, Michael, I sense a bit of anxiety about the issue of your son getting hurt by the furniture, etc. being he is walking now and is not aware of the danger he may be exposed to. I agree with your wife that saying no to a 10 month old is not an option to prevent a tragedy. I also think that there should be a compromise as to what is best for your son's safety and completely removing this part of your entertainment. It is a tough choice, but I know you would agree that your son should come first!
Having said that, I do agree with you that there are safety gates, fences, etc. that may help to keep him safe. I do not know the configuration of the area to see if it could work. But it may be something you can try to set up. If it truly keeps him away from the area and cannot bang his toys on the glass or pull down the wires, speakers, etc. then it may work as a compromise. However, if it seems inadequate and that as time goes by he learns to get by the gate, the same danger is there for him. It is just .... Read More  |
