Hi, thanks for be here to help us moms!! I have a 6 month old daughter and a 4 year old son. What would be a fair hourly price for a sitter? We usually leave the kids with family but I would really like to find a sitter who is reliable and not a part of the family. How should I work out pay?? Thanks!! |

Fantastic question! The national average rate for a college-age sitter is around $12/hour. ($10/hour for a high schooler, $8/hour for a younger sitter.)
However, The rate YOU'LL pay depends on several different factors, one being where you live. A parent in Memphis, for example, would pay less than a parent in Manhattan.
To get a better idea of how much to pay, Sittercity.com has an interactive Babysitter Rate Calculator that lets you plug in some quick info (ZIP code, number of children, age of sitter, her years of experience) and then tells you the average rate in your area for those circumstances.
